New research from the National Restaurant Association shows that nearly 50 percent of restaurants are now owned by women.

The research also shows that restaurants employ more minority managers than any other industry, and that Hispanic restaurant ownership has increased 42 percent in the past five years.

Domino’s Refranchises 26 Minneapolis Locations

Domino’s Pizza announced that it has refranchised its 26 Minneapolis-based, company-owned stores to a local owner-operator.

With the acquisition, franchisee Bill Graves’ company, Ultimate Challenge, becomes the third-largest U.S. Domino’s Pizza franchise, operating 73 stores in six states.

Jamba Juice Pairs Up with SYGMA

Jamba Juice and SYGMA, a national foodservice distribution company owned by Sysco Corporation, announced their plans to form a supply chain distribution alliance.

The proposed alliance will enable Jamba to consolidate distribution channels and achieve greater efficiencies in their supply chain as well as position Jamba for faster expansion of services into existing and new geographic locations.

Fazoli’s Sets Up Shop in a Walmart

Fazoli’s announced that as part of its growth strategy and push into nontraditional locations, it will open its first Walmart location on February 15.

The newest Fazoli’s will be christened with grand-opening and ribbon-cutting ceremonies at the Walmart Supercenter at 3270 Telegraph Road in St. Louis.

Carl Howard, CEO of Fazoli’s, says the brand is through its “fix and repair” stages and that the Walmart unit marks the beginning of its “growth mode.”
