BK Whopper Bar Continues Global Spread
Burger King Corp. announced the opening of its first Whopper Bar restaurant in the company’s Asia-Pacific region, in Singapore’s popular lifestyle precinct Clarke Quay. The opening is part of Burger King Corp.’s plan to introduce its Whopper Bar concept on a global scale.
“We are committed to diversifying our global restaurant portfolio and driving strategic net restaurant growth across the Burger King system,” says John Chidsey, chairman and CEO for Burger King Corp.

Freshëns decided to “bare it all” with its new all-natural yogurt and smoothie base mixes. The back-to-the-basics approach included a vast reengineering of the entire product line based on research by the Culinary Edge, a development firm based in San Francisco. It was concluded that Freshëns could reformulate its most popular yogurt and smoothie mixes to meet current “all natural” demands by their core 18–24-year-old demographic.

Former Caribou Coffee CEO Joins Upstart Burger Company
Michael J. Coles joins a group of Boardwalk Fresh Burger and Fries investors as the first of 50 new restaurants opens in February in the Hammond Springs Shopping Center at Roswell and Hammond Drive in Sandy Springs, Georgia (Atlanta metro). Coles is the founder of Great American Cookie Company, as well as the former chairman and CEO of Caribou Coffee, where he remains on the board.
Drive-Thru Technology Paired Through New Alliance
3M and HyperActive Technologies announced that they formed an alliance to bring a new paradigm of drive-thru technology to quick-service restaurants. The partnership between the two companies is designed to help improve quick serves’ speed, accuracy, and employee productivity for orders placed in their drive-thru lanes. Restaurants will be able to have all of their drive-thru technology needs addressed through 3M since the company will not only represent its own products in the marketplace but HyperActive Technologies’ line of offerings as well, making 3M a single point of contact for restaurant managers on everything from orders to installation and service.
